Crowns, Bridges & Porcelain veneers

Crowns

Dental Crowns, also referred to as “caps” are restorations that cover and encase the tooth on which they are cemented. This helps to hold and splint the tooth together reducing the risk of tooth fractures.

We use crowns to restore the appearance of broken or decayed teeth, straighten teeth and improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth.

Crowns are indicated for

  • Severely broken-down teeth

  • Replacements of large fillings

  • Teeth which regularly break

  • After root canal therapy (RCT)

  • Cosmetic improvements (shape, colour and/or position)

At The O Clinic once your tooth/teeth have been prepared and impressions or scan taken a biocompatible digitally produced and a full tooth coloured crown is constructed.

Bridgework
If you have a gap in your mouth where a tooth has not formed or if one has been removed, The O Clinic clinicians understand the importance of restoring such a space not only for the health of the immediate surroundings structure but also for the stability of your bite and full body influences.

There are several options to restore such a space. Our clinician will advise you accordingly and may suggest a bridge.
A bridge consists of a false tooth (pontic) being supported/fused between two crowns which are which are bonded to your own teeth to fill in the gap, you can efferently clean underneath it your bridge once it has been permanently placed.
Other bridges such as a cantilever bridge are only fused to one tooth.

In areas of the mouth that are under less stress, such as your front teeth, a cantilever bridge may be used. Cantilever bridges are used when there are teeth on only one side of the open space.

When cared for bridges can reduce your risk of gum disease, help correct bite issues and even improve speech, as well as giving an improved cosmetic appearance.

Veneers

Veneers are thin, custom-made tooth coloured covers for the front surface of the teeth. They can be used and designed to alter gaps between teeth, mask stains, miss aligned or crooked teeth. They are crafted from tooth-coloured, high-tech materials to portray a natural, bright smile.

Veneers provide an alternative to traditional crowns. If these conditions apply to your mouth, veneers may be your best option and The O Clinic dentists can advise you on the suitability of such treatment.
